I started writing in 2014 after taking early retirement, turning to poetry when my attempts at fiction failed to appear on the page as they had in my head. Some poems do that too, but the failure rate is slightly lower. My enthusiasm was bolstered by winning themed competitions run by Canterbury’s SaveAs’ Writers in 2014 and 2015. There is a deep satisfaction in creating a poem from the germ of an idea and pleasure in the process itself. If it turns out to be a good poem, it’s a bonus.
